... E-learning in business – Has the old seminar had its days? ... E-learning is one way to retain good employees and adapt to the ever-changing economic and information society.
For this reason, an increasing number of companies emphasize the value of e-learning as an instrument for extended vocational training for their employees. One main aspect is that e-learning can save the companies’ costs and time. Travel costs and hotel fees for seminars are usually higher than developing an e-learning course within the company.
Another advantage is that the learning programs are always available, when there is a specific problem. This allows a socalled “just-in-time-learning”; calculated learning for direct use (Beste, 1996).
For e-learning to be effective, it has to reach the audience and deliver information in a way that allows the audience to actually absorb it.
