World Must Know Book Report
... ” you would probably get an answer such as, “It was the killing of Jews during World War II. ... The World Must Know written by Michael Berenbaum is the history of the Holocaust as told in the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Unlike the The Diary of Anne Frank which is the story of one young women’s Holocaust experience, Berenbaum’s The World Must Know, is an attempt to explore the history of the Holocaust and educate readers with text, photographs, maps, and oral histories. Although Michael Berenbaum does an excellent job describing all aspects of the Holocaust from pre-war anti-Semitism to the Nuremburg trial with pictures and actual survivor stories, the book lacks detail in some areas where more explanation would be useful to create a full picture of the Holocaust. The World Must Know resembles three books in one. The first book would be a photo journal of the Holocaust, because the pictures narrate a detailed story of events that brings the Holocaust to life. ... In the beginning of the book, there are several pages of pictures that show families gathered together in nice clothing, taking a family portrait. ... Now that you can relate to the family, you are able to bring into scope how horrible the events of the Holocaust must have been. ... Just as the pictures in the beginning of the book give real faces to the victims of the Holocaust, other pictures give faces to those victimizing the Jews. ... The main “book”, in this three in one book is Berenbaum’s written text, which is written more like a text book than one single story, as I mentioned briefly earlier when I compared The World Must Know to The Diary of Anne Frank. The book is set up in sections that touch on many major subjects of the Holocaust starting with anti-Semitism in Europe before Nazi control and ending with the Nuremburg trials. ... Not to say that at any point the book condone Nazi action, but rather it holds the opinion that the Holocaust was tragic.
