If Hughes was forced to use the structure of a sonnet, this poem would be a lot different. It might not even have the same feel if it was put in the form of a sonnet. In Hughes poem he gets his point across in his way not by following they old tradition of the sonnet. There is just to many guide lines for a sonnet and this would not be expressed as well as it is the way Hughes originally wrote it.
