Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, better known as AIDS, is a viral disease that’s killed millions worldwide. It weakens the body’s ability to fight other diseases and infections, leaving the body unprotected and vulnerable to viral infections that are harmless to healthy people. Infections such as the flu, can be very fatal. Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is caused by Human Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV). It is a common misbelieve that HIV and AIDS are the same, but they aren’t. AIDS, is a viral disease that attacks the immune system. While HIV is the attack of CD4 T- cells, which is an important piece of the immune system. But just because you are infected with HIV doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to get AIDS but that isn’t a reason to not be precautious. AIDS was first discovered in 1981 among drug users and homosexual men in California and New York.
