For some scholars the role of woman in Islam has been misunderstood in the west because of the general ignorance about the islamic system and islamic way of life as a whole. ... Is it true that every muslim woman is suffering because of Islam or Islamic law? or Is it the societies who are misinterpreting Islam and use it for their own pleasure? and Why there is a difference in the religious laws and status of woman before and after the prophet Muhammeds death? There so many questions like this ones has to be answered in order to understand the real status of woman under Islam. If we look at the historical background of Islam, we can see that the rights granted to woman in the quran and by the prophet Muhammed were huge improvement in comparision to the stiuation of woman in Arabia before the advent of Islam. ... The condition of woman in Islam began to decline and revert back to the pre- islamic norms. I believe this is the time period when and where all the problems for woman in islam starts. ... As example; Prophet Muhammed was married with just one woman for a long time, than he only married with other woman, If their husbands get killed in wars. Just for the protection of the woman. But after his death Islamic law let a man to marry up to four woman. ... Between Turkey and Saudi-arabia there is a huge difference in everything which included the position of woman. ... When we look at the woman rights in Turkey we can even see that muslim Turkish woman got some of their very important rights years before the so called civilized western nations. For example; Turkish woman granted their right to vote and eligibility for municipal elections in 1934 which is a great triumph for Turkish woman, in comparison to the french woman who were not allowed to vote until 1947 and swiss woman did not recieve the right until 1971. In 1935 a year after the elections World Woman congress held in Istanbul. I am not even sure that hundreds of woman could came togather and argue about their rigts during the same time period in Saudi-Arabia.
