Protect and Defend
Brad Goldbach PSCI 317 Protect and Defend Being a Political Science major I found that it is easy to assimilate yourself into the situations brought forth throughout this book. Many of the situations encountered are quite possibly real, meaning that in “real life” how many presidents take the oath given by one of their biggest opponents. When a fellow, distinguished senator asks you to scratch his back or else your career in politics is over. Finally when does it come time for one to consider their past and the skeletons in their closet when facing personal and professional advancement? This book has done a decent job in tying together the lives of numerous people into one drawn out drama. President-elect Kerry Kicannon is sitting on top of the world, he is taking the oath of the Presidency of the United States. It’s a cold dreary morning, most are there with smiles and happiness to see the man of the people take the reigns and drive his country into the iridescent blue skies ahead. You know deep inside that Chief Justice Bannon utterly despises your existence and thinks that he should be the man standing in your shoes. Then at the finish of your commemoration the chief justice, the commander of your Supreme Court drops dead. As if being a newly elected president is tough enough, there is an empty seat in the Court, and right now everyone thinks of a person to fill that spot, that you must appoint and worry about the Senate Judiciary Committee to approve. Mary Ann, that sweet little 15 yr. that lives next door, your sister, your daughter fights through all of her fears, here parents values, the kids at school, and the feeling of hopelessness to make a decision that would change the rest of her life. Yes she made a mistake, she’s young and vulnerable, and she liked him so much. She actually thought he really liked her, she made the same mistake most girls make, and it was only unfortunate that the end result is a pregnancy. But she is a strong will lass, finally built up the courage to tell her parents that she is pregnant.
