Was the killing of the suitors by Odysseus in The Odyssey of Homer justified?
Considering the arguments presented in Thucydides’ Mytileanian Debate, we see arguments of the speakers: Cleon and Diodotus and for each point made, I will apply them to the situation in the Odyssey to prove that the killings of the suitors were justified. ... After taking advantage of Odysseus in his absence, the suitors definitely are not going to be useful to Odysseus in the future. ... Among other things,1- his actions were sanctioned by the gods (this is the gods’ will that Odysseus was carrying out), and 2- the suitors must die because they didn’t make any sacrifices to the gods. The killing of the suitors is Odysseus’s revenge on the suitors for what they’ve done to him.
