The title of the poem itself seemed very interesting as Bangle sellers. This is mainly because the poem is not about the bangle sellers, but rather it is in their voice. The first line almost seems to be a proud proclamation about the identity they ‘possess’ about themselves: ‘Bangle sellers are we who bear……. ... Throughout the poem, the bangle sellers have described the life stages of a female from being a jovial daughter to a satisfied mother (in-law). ... Continuing with this epithet, lines 14-16 compare some of the bangle hues as bright, passionate and almost gaudy as seems the ‘sunlit corn’ and similarly like, ‘flames of (her) marriage fire’. ... The fourth and the last paragraph of the poem is in a literal sense the climax of the poem. ... Another analogy that strikes is the ‘nature-culture’ relationship which seems to be interwoven throughout the poem, where nature represents itself through cultural objects such as bangles. ... With reference to the bangle – seller, we are given absolutely no idea of their gender, although they are the direct speakers. And these bangle – sellers become, in a way, advocates for the encouragement of this firm hierarchy within our system.
