The Questions and tasks address the goals of the program by engaging the student/teacher teams in research, critical thinking, communicating thoughts, and making connections. The tasks also provide a mechanism for assessment, both for the program coordinators and the classroom teachers. Each task builds upon previous skills and knowledge base which allows the student/teacher teams to construct meaning from seemingly unrelated material. Since this curriculum is first and foremost about physics, the science domain dominates. However, some questions are built into each unit which integrate the science with the other domain areas. For example, one task in the football unit asks the students to look at youth football leagues and the dangers inherent to young people playing a highly contact sport. The research here would include social issues, like peer pressure and popularity; economic issues, like the cost of injuries and equipment; and political issues, like school administrations which are driven by coaches. With this approach, the student builds deeper and better understanding of the issues analyzed.
