AZIZ IN A PASSAGE TO INDIA Aziz is one of the main characters in Foster’s novel A Passage to India. He is a sensitive, educated and open-minded Moslem doctor who lives in Chandrapore, a city along the Ganges River. These features of his personality are displayed throughout this chapter in which, although he seems to have an easygoing attitude to life, he also seems to be capable of getting angry when he is aware of any snub against him by the English. Probably the first obvious feature of his personality is his sensitiveness. It can clearly be seen when he goes into the mosque and this Islamic temple awakens Aziz's sense of beauty. He starts thinking that he will build one some day and he thinks also about the inscription he is going to write on his own tomb. While repeating the phase of the inscription he starts shedding tears.
