Web servers ?general security issues Bugs or misconfiguration problems in the Web server might allow unauthorised remote users to: ?Steal confidential documents ?Execute commands on the server host machine, allowing them to modify the system. ?Gain information about the Web server's host machine that will allow them to break into the system. ?Launch denial-of-service attacks, rendering the machine temporarily unusable. The general guide is: the more features / facilities available, the more likely that the server has security holes to exploit. For example, recognising and authenticating different groups of users with different access privileges. The best policy is to set up one group with permission to write to everything and restrict access to that group.
