Manifest Destiny was used as an idea to soothe the overall conscience of the American people in regards to horrific violence committed against the original peoples residing in the U. ... It held the special virtues of the American people and their institutions in mind, and believed its mission was to redeem and remake the world in the image of America; that it was the American destiny under God to accomplish this sublime task. ... Manifest Destiny was not a group of ideas that forced an imperialistic idea onto the Native American nations, but it provided for the accessibility of land, which resulted in a desperate attempt by the Native Americans to retain their collapsing ownership by merging themselves into the American society. ... Once the entire country knew and understood the Manifest Destiny, the American mind set to work, indulging in its greed and justifying itself through cites of the doctrine. ... Writing in the spirit of Manifest Destiny, James Gordon Bennet championed the Mexican cause, for he believed that the Mexicans were “as sure to melt away at the approach of Anglo-Saxon energy and enterprise as snow before a southern sun. ... And, as they trekked westward in search of their homestead, the Manifest Destiny put fears aside of retribution from their infringements and intrusion onto foreign land, for it was the settlers’ solemn and respected appointment to mold this frontier, massively uncared for by the original “incompetent” government, into a place filled with civilization and religion.
