Introduction: This report is designed to demonstrate my learning outcomes from the Innovation masters programme and in specific the Investigation management module. ... Part one will draw on four concepts from the module that will be important in my own dissertation management, outlining associated problems and how I plan to take action to ensure that I am effective. ... I have identified four main concepts that will be of importance in my own dissertation management as the following: · Seeking a valid direction · Literature and its uses · Ethics in research · Stress sources and management. Seeking a valid direction was chosen because for me this is the most difficult aspect of project management. It requires one to assess the overall objective of the project and my ability to effectively undertake the project in relation to resources (such as access to literature, time and so on) and my skills (such as time-management, and motivation). ... In many cases of past project working I become increasingly committed to a course of action even when it is clearly going wrong because my choices are usually based on intuition, hunches and guesswork. ... Contingency planning could enable corrective action to be taken quickly with minimal disruption, thus avoiding further time-wastage on trying to salvage a dead end project. ... ’ The second concept as being important in my own dissertation management is that of literature and its use. Twiss (1992) states that accurate and timely information is the life-blood of effective dissertation management. ... I have discovered that from past project management experience that possession of literature, whilst an essential first step in project management does not guarantee that a linkage will be made between literature and project content.
