Leadership can be learned. Specific characteristics of leadership follow: 1) VISION - being able to articulate the future in clear simple language: An emphasis on what will be rather than what is. "I have a dream" by Martin Luther King, "I don't want a revolution in which I can't dance" by Emma Goldman and "Ask not what ......" JFK. To bring it down to a level we can all relate to, a leader should be able to state in concrete ideas how programs will work, who will be served, what outcomes are expected from a project, what technology will be used and how the organization will get there. 2) Next the leader should be able to FOCUS. Susan B. Anthony's focus on the vote for women never wavered; neither did Caesar Chavez's on farmworker issues.
