It’s about a simple young India woman named Rukumani, who lived in India with her family. During her life she came cross many conflicts. This literary essay will explain three main conflicts the protagonist faced throughout the novel. A conflict is the opposite between characters or forces in a work of drama or fiction. An internal conflict is when something affects you in an emotional, mental or spiritual nature. An external conflict is when it affects someone or something connecting with the outside. This is a summary of all the different conflicts the protagonist, Rukmani faces throughout the novel. The first conflict is Rukmani verses Kuti. Kuti becomes jealous of Rukmani's relationship with Nathan. But later on in the story Runkmani finds out that Nathan had a child with Kuti. During this novel they both become enemies. This is an external conflict Rukmani goes through. The second conflict is Rukmani verses self. This is an internal conflict. She loses hope in everything she has. She feels guilty that she’s seeing Kennedy without her husband knowing. She also can’t bear her child. The third and finale conflict is Rukmani verses Nature. This is an internal conflict.
