Learning Team Diversity – An Analysis of Our Group The essence of any group that aspires to excellence is the people who comprise it. The value of diversity cannot be overlooked and can be the key to success in any group where individuals endeavor to work as a team. The plurality of skills, beliefs, values, and experiences that the six individuals in our learning team bring to the table will enable us to grow both as individuals and as co-workers in our learning team. The foundation for our success will be to come together and work hard for the good of the entire learning team in a climate of mutual respect for each other. There is a great deal of diversity within our newly formed learning team. The size of the group alone contributes to this vast diversity. ... These differences will hopefully yield positive results for our learning team. Unfortunately, it is possible that some of these same differences could have some negative effects on the productivity of our team. Our learning team is truly a diverse group of people. One area of this diversity is in the gender make-up of the team. ... It would also be possible for the men to worry that the women will try and take over the team, since they are out numbered. ... We look forward to using this diversity to our advantage and will work to make this team stand out as the best. Another area of diversity in our team is the fact that our ages vary greatly, with a span of over twenty years between the youngest and the oldest members of the team. ... The younger members of the group should bring fresh ideas of their own to the team. When we take into consideration the various occupations within the team, we can see that each of us has something to learn from the others. ... The skills and abilities that each team member brings to the learning team from his or her job will help us accomplish the work ahead.
