We no longer seem to be passionate believers in vegetarianism as the previous generation used to be. Instead, we are obsessed with the idea of dieting. In spite of the fact that a lot of people have adopted a vegetarian diet, the reason for it is not preserving animals, but it is rather caused by a cultural emphasis on slimness. To my mind, these people only put themselves at risk. And I suspect that part of them is sometimes dying for a piece of cake. On the controversy, there appears a slogan: “We should all grow fat and be happy!” Why not? There’s no use in being suspicious of all frozen food and despise any product that contains additives, otherwise you are likely to die of hunger and starvation. Almost every product nowadays contains something like E 121, E 245, E 415, etc. I hope I’m wrong! We view things like whaling and seal-hunting with disgust, and find vivisection extremely distasteful as well as in 1980-s. But still there are a lot of people who question a law that puts the continuance of lower forms of life above man’s own survival.
