Functions of law - Laws outline rights and responsibilities of citizens or states eg. Fair trial, taxes - Laws create just and fair relationships between two parties.. like contracts, prevents nuisance to others. - Best society laws that are fair and just, do not discriminate yet gives as much freedom as possible. Reasons people obey laws - Laws help settle disputes - Laws help maintain order. A community enforces its beliefs by punishing offenders of law. - Laws tell how much value a community places things. E.g. life - Laws adapt to changes in society such as laws for test tube babies.
