The decision to ground some passenger flights amid security fears has been defended by the government. Ministers said safety must come first, as BA planned to resume its service to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia following the cancellation of two previous flights. Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said that if terrorists did beat security the government would be called negligent. Transport Secretary Alistair Darling said the Riyadh flight, and others to the US, were grounded as a last resort. The ministers spoke after a BBC reporter and camera crew gained access to a restricted area of Humberside Airport, raising concerns about security.
