Like will this be fucking this will be just written down? oh no No How many years are you in the army now. 5 years 5 years ya. Ya How old were you when you first joined. 20 so were you in college before that? Ya. Ah Why did you decide to leave college and join the army? Why did I decide? Ya. Well em because they took me, they wanted me, or they said they wanted me. They wanted you. Ya I tried when I was em, I wanted to get into the army I wanted to do engineering as well and eh is this playing??? ooooh Ya, ha ha, go on Em, em I tried when I left school and I tried for the cadets and I was unsuccessful and I tried again when I was 19 and I got in when I was 20. Really Ya, October of that year I left ucc to go to the curragh. So you were doing civil eng in ucc Ya I had 2 yrs done.ya I went ya I wasn’t really enjoying that much, and I went to the Curragh then for 21 months. Ya I did my eh cadet training. And what did that entail? That involved em…..lots of things really .suppose we started off with the basic military , learning about the basic military things, everything from marching to firing a rifle, to learning to strip and clean your riffle. Details then on after work. We used to work you’d be up around 7 o clock on for 8 and we used have physical training aswell.em lectures on tactics whatever and we’d have details then in the afterwork. Around 5 o clock we’d clean lecture hall whatever for 2 hrs. em that was for that was for the first year. Basically they train ya to become a soldier first of all then they train ya to be a non commissioned officer you no they’d bring ya to that level a corporal or a sergeant and finally for training they should they eh train train ya to eh become an officer or a lieutenant to commander. So did you know anyone beforehand or was it all new to you? No I didn’t wait yes I did. I knew two lads from Ballincollig and they went up with me. And then there was 37 in my class and they are some of the best friends that I have.
