... Elizabeth because he was quite fond of Abigail. Consequently, Elizabeth and John’s marriage began to disintegrate. Their conversations and actions amid each other became very monotonous and dry. Subsequently, John started to feel guilty for his transgression and carried this burden upon him for quite sometime. However, John did confess to this perjury. In the end, Elizabeth forgave him and said, “He have his goodness now.” The township of Salem began to infer that there was witchcraft amongst the community after the village girls were caught dancing, chanting, and shouting in the woods and two of the girls could not awake after performing this perjury. Abigail was one of the girls in the woods. To cover up their sinful acts, Abigail accused several of the village pariahs of witchcraft and, as a result, alleged that the village pariahs made the girls dance in the woods and do other devilish acts. Because the village girls knew they had committed this sin, they knew their punishment would be brutal, so they had to keep lying and one lie led to many. The village girls not only accused the village pariahs of witchcraft, but they started accusing family members, best friends, close neighbors, or just anyone who appeared to be suspicious. In one occasion, a man questioned the reverend about his wife reading bizarre books. The man didn’t mean that his wife was a witch, but she then was accused of witchcraft and subsequently executed.
