Shakespeare uses Macbeth to show the terrible effects that ambition and guilt can have on a man who lacks strength of character. Macbeth is a great warrior that is not mentally equipped to handle the torment of murder. Before Macbeth kills Duncan, he is plagued by worry and almost calls it off. Nevertheless, Lady Macbeth’s stern sense of purpose pushes him into the deed. However, after the murder her powerful personality begins to diminish, leaving Macbeth ever increasingly alone.
