Shannon worked everyday trying to get feeling in her body and tried even harder to move her arms. Astonishingly Shannon eventually got feeling in her shoulders, arms, and fingers. Nicole was amazed at how much progress Shannon had made. Nicole couldn’t grasp how Shannon could not be depressed about the fact that she had no feeling in her legs and will never use them again. All Nicole could think about was how sad she would be if she never got to play ball again, never got to run the bases. With all the questions that arose in Nicole’s head about life and what it meant to her it started Nicole down a new life path, a path that would lead her to self satisfaction. Shannon and Nicole played on the Port Perry Angels softball team for 2 years together. Right from the start they had gotten together. Shannon always played to the best of her ability. Nicole always looked at her as a ‘try hard’. Shannon would always ask Nicole why she would never put as much effort and talent into game that Shannon knew Nicole had. Nicole’s response was, “because I don’t have to.” Shannon always tried to get her to play the way she knew Nicole could but Nicole would refuse to put forth the work.
