Sophocles' Antigone

...mene didn’t have the courage to defy Creon’s orders, so she refused to help her sister. She feared if she helped she would receive a harsh punishment. Even though Ismene plead with Antigone not to defy the orders of Creon, Antigone stills feels that it is the right thing to do. When Creon finds out the body had been buried he is furious, he requests that the person who has done this be found at once! When Antigone is brought before Creon and questioned about the burial she doesn’t deny that she had done it. She argues with Creon that she is morally correct about the burial. He then summons Ismene believing that she has something to do with the burial as well. Ismene tries to take the blame for the crime but, Antigone will not let her saying that she had nothing to do with the burial. Creon decides to spare Ismene and condemned Antigone to be buried alive in a cave where she eventually hanged herself. After Creon had made his decision he comes to find out that the Gods have sided with Antigone. Because the Gods took Antigone’s side, Creon would be punished for the crimes of leaving Polynices unburied and putting Antigone into the earth. Haemon, Creon's son, out of his love for Antigone then took his own life. Also, the people of Greece turned against him. I believe that this play could be compared with the recent war in Iraq. When President George W. Bush decided to go to war he did not have the backing of UN. He did it anyway because he thought that it was the right thing to do to protect the U.S. as well as the rest of the world. He was told by the CIA that Iraq was developing weapons of mass destruction and that they were in alliance with Al-Qaeda. His critics however...
