Network information
...edia. Each station on the network receives the signal from the station before it and repeats the signal for the next station. When a workstation transmits data, it gives the data the address of some other station on the ring. The data is circulated around the ring through each station's repeater until it reaches the station to which it is addressed and is copied. The receiving workstation will then put an acknowledgment of receipt to the data. The data continues on around the ring until it returns to the workstation from which it was originally transmitted, which reads the acknowledgment and removes the signal from the ring. This is the logical data flow through a network. The physical design of a network involved the actual layout of the cables, computer terminals, routers, and other devices used in a network. Whether depending on the type of network, the setup can be arranged several different ways. The network design includes planning where to install each workstation, as well as the servers for the network. Printers maybe placed in general locations where they are easily accessible by all employees. The actual medium used to connect the physical aspect of the LAN includes fiber optics, coaxial cable, twisted pair/untwisted pair, etc. The type of medium used is based on the amount of security needed and the amount the company is willing to pay for a secure and reliable network. The primary difference between a physical design of a network and a logical design is that the physical design is concerned with the actual devices that will the logical design will use to transport data. Basically, the logical design sets up the network for the data to flow and the physical...
