... For most people in America today, the phrase brings up images of a man and a woman being joined in marriage. But for the gay and lesbian population saying “I do” is seemingly a far off dream rather than a reality. European countries reconize same sex marriages, but mariages of gay and lesbians still are unreconized by the United States Government. Same sex marriages should be entiled to the same reconition and the same rights as the traditionally known man and woman marriage.
In 1996, President Bill Clinton signed the Defence of Marriage Act, or DOMA. ... In addition to that, DOMA defines marriage for federal purposes as a legal union between a man and a woman.
