“My Family Stories”

...d he was picking on my uncle who at the time was one of the smallest kids in his class. My mom and her sister beat him up and sent him home for the day; he never lived down getting beat up by two girls, let alone two girls in junior high. She also told me about the time she had her dad as a teacher in her junior year of high school. Well, when she walked into her first class, she was surprised to see that my grandpa was her history teacher. My grandpa wasn’t the kind of guy to give an easy time to anyone, let alone one of his children. To make her blush in front of everyone, he would ask my mom all the hard questions. Because, my grandpa worked at the same school my mom went to he always gave her a ride. One time my grandpa was running late for school and he still marked her late, he said she could have found another ride to school. At the end of the term he gave her a B+, but she knew she should have gotten at least an A-. His excuse for giving my mom this grade was because she had more access to get help than any of the other students. When my mom’s report card came my grandpa grounded her for getting such a low grade. My dad on the other hand was born and raised in Southern California with two brothers and one sister. Being the youngest, he always got away with everything. Whenever my dad did something wrong my uncles would get in trouble instead of my dad. For instance, when my dad was about eight years old, he stole some of my grandpa’s money so that he and his friends could get some ice-cream, well when my grandpa found out he yelled at my uncles for stealing his money. My uncles would then start yelling back at my grandpa, telling him they didn’t steal the money, usually after that they would try to get my dad in trouble. My dad also told me about his days of play baseball, once he hit a home run to win the game. After the game, he and his teammates went to a pizza place down the road, and everyone kept telling my dad that he had a wonderful game. It was a memory that my dad will never forget. In addition to his childhood memories, he has many stories of a teacher in his high school. Mr. Shoe was my dad’s math teacher; he was an Asian man, about 5’ 10”, 210 lbs, all muscle. He would pick on everyone and he was still loved, he made math interesting and fun. Every once in a while, Mr. Shoe would pick on my dad. Long after deciding not to go to prom, Mr. Shoe found out and started asking my dad over and over again, why he wasn’t going. Mr. Shoe figured my dad was scared to ask a girl, so he found a girl that was planning on going to the prom but didn’t have a date and sent up a blind-date for my dad with this girl. My dad wound up taking the girl to prom and Mr. Shoe didn’t let him live it down for weeks. My parents met in when they were both about twenty-three. After being the in navy, both of my parents decided to move to Southern California. After living in the same apartment complex for 4 months my mom and dad finally met. My mom was outside her apartment reading a mystery, she has always hated reading while her roommate watched T.V., when my dad walked by. He introduced himself and they became instant friends. My dad finally asked her to be his girlfriend, and about two years later he proposed, and on June 20, 1981 my parents were married in San Diego, California. There wedding was small, probably only had twenty to thirty people, and no one at the wedding was family. My mom used to always tell me about my sister and me playing around the house, like when we would build tents in the living room. We would play under the tents and my parents wouldn’t see us for hours. My sister and I were always wi...
