...ite unlike someone brought up in a rich neighborhood, the truth in question being whether or not the life they are living is who they are. This is shown in the movie when Edward Bloom accidentally enters the town of Spectre, which is maybe the length of a football field, and the main street is pure green grass. The people in this small town are blinded by the mindset that they can never leave because they have lived there their entire lives. Edward however, realizes after staying there a few days that this was not the town he is supposed to be at yet, and hurriedly tries to leave the town. The townsfolk believed that leaving was not possible, and this was a fact to them, but because of the mindset Edward Bloom had, he was able to backtrack and leave the town. By seeing something you believe it to be truth, but that can change depending on another persons viewpoint. While at the small town of Spectre during the first night, Edward Bloom descends upon a misty lake to think about the predicament he has gotten himself into. While watching the water he notices a women standing in the water far off in the distance. This woman appears as a mermaid to Edward, but is the illusion of different things depending on who is looking. A small girl sees Bloom and explains that him that, “My daddy said it looked like the coon dog he had when he was a kid, back from the dead.” That is the thing with the truth. The girl’s dad was not wrong about what he saw, he just saw differently than what Edward saw. The same occurs in modern day society with everything. You can see this is criminal trials, where evidence is brought forth and multiple people put together their viewpoints on a certain situation and try to come up with a common ‘truth’ or ‘fact’. People tell stories and they sometimes tend to exaggerate things or maybe stretch the truth. This doesn’t discount the entire story. A particular event that takes place in the movie is when Edward Bloom receives his Selective Service letter from the U.S. Government.
