The television show Everybody Loves Raymond reinforces these values by presenting problems and issues related to family and respect and then resolving them to reinforce that at the basis of all disputes is still a strong loving relationship. Challenges the social institution of marriage as it provides the basis of the issues and problems that occur within the situation comedy. The show challenges the marriage between Debra and Raymond by creating trivial disputes within their relationship. For example, when Debra tricks Raymond into believing she has had breast enlargements. Through these disputes, the show reinforces the value of marriage by finding a resolution. The soap opera Neighbours presents the middle class, suburban, Australian society. The show presents a small community of people of all ages and backgrounds living together in a suburban street in Melbourne. The show deals with the attitudes of people towards physical appearance, age, intelligence, individuality, community, family and friendships. Watching the characters in a soap opera deal with everyday problems allows the viewers a sense of normality and helps them to deal with their problems in comparison. The viewer wants to be part of the community of the soap opera such as Neighbours and share their knowledge of the reoccurring themes that are happening. If we all lived on Ramsey Street, we would be very attractive, doing well at school or university, have a great job, fantastic children, good at sport, happily married, and no problems for very long. This allows the viewer to feel like they could be living in the ideal world where you can do anything, and any problems that you may have will not last too long. Reinforces that even though tragedy is always occurring in the world, there is hope that problems can be resolved. Neighbours, circulates and accepts the idea that nuclear families have degenerated. Unlike the American situation comedy Everybody loves Raymond, Neighbours presents a more realistic society that people can follow and believe in. By presenting a community in which all households have either a divorce or an adoption. The television show focuses on the young attractive characters and their lives. But in a catholic society we should up-hold the attitude that God created everyone in his image. The show as adapted significantly to the growing demand of the society.
