Investigation of the world trade center towers
...ht on what happened that tragic day. NIST is an acronym for the National Institute of Standards and Technology. This organization released a report on what they found to be the determining factor of the collapses. A study has found that the fireproofing in both towers was stripped off from the deep impact which gave the structures no protection against the extreme heat produced from burning fuel. This is not really surprising to find out. These structures were not made to be hit with such a force. S. Shyam Sunder, a lead investigator for NIST claims that if the fire would have started due to a common office building fire, the building would have just been gutted by the fire and would not have collapsed. This statement comes even with not having any sprinkler system operations. There are many that are skeptical about the structures initial integrity to withstand a fire but NIST assures that both towers were built with the majority of steel being much stronger than required. They also claim that the towers fire tests met with New York City building codes of that time. Post states that the study found several factors that contributed to the collapse...
