Discrimination and its effect on the economy

As the Maslow hierarchy of needs states, when an employee has philological, safety, belonging, and esteem needs met they will reach self-actualization and they will strive to maintain this state. If one of these needs is not met, for example if the employee may feel they are being discriminated against and feel as though they do not belong. This employee will not reach self-actualization. At this stage the employee is the most productive and efficient. Discriminating against women or minorities you are consequently isolating your business from potential markets and opportunities. According to the Untied States Census Bureau, the US is comprised of around 290 million people. While males make up 49.1 percent of the US population thus, making females 50.9 percent of the population. If one discriminates against women you are missing out on about 145 million people that could potentially drive your business and the economy. Minorities make up about 37.3 percent of the US population. With these two combined it is more than 85 percent of the US population that can potential employees and customers. Productive efficiency is the production of a good or service for the least expensive way. When discrimination takes place, the economy is affected by not achieving productive efficiency. Discrimination weakens the economic productivity and revenues. It prevents women and minorities from making legitimate wages and the contribution to the economic income. Discriminating against them prevents them from involvement in the output of the economy. This is generally not good for the economy to be bias. I myself have been a witness to a discriminatory act coming from a Latino heritage. My cousin during his high school years was an average student. When he got to college he buckled down and he graduated with a 3.9 grade point average. His roommate on the other hand was a white male and an average student in high school. In college he began to decline and received a 2.7 grade point average. They both graduated majoring in web design and my cousin also had more out of class room experience than his roommate. They both obtained an interview with a company, designing and maintaining there webpage. According to my cousin at the interview, there were only white male executives, and they give the impression that they wanted to him me in and out. Needless to say they chose my cousins roommate...
