Imagine a time and a place where your neighbors, your friends, and your closest loved ones lived in a society of inequality and injustice. Imagine a place where your money meant little and your voice meant even less. This is not a picture of a third-world country starving for freedom from political strife. This is America in 1992. Americans desperate for change and revitalization hung their hopes on the belief that “all men are created equal under God” as is the precept of American freedom. Americans had endured almost two decades of economic turmoil, a costly war in the desert, and countless other challenges. In January 1993, the 43rd president of the United States, William Jefferson Clinton was sworn into office. With him were the hopes of many Americans that change would soon be a realization, not just lip service.
