Geronimo, The Great Warrior
... a great leader. He led his warriors on raids into the United States, frightening the people around Tucson, Arizona. He fought a cruel eas for more than ten years with the Americans. Once in March of 1886 he surrendered. Then two days later he escaped with his group of Indians. Again in Septenber 1886 he gave himself up to General Nelson Miles. The whole group of Indians, including women and children, were sent to Fort Pickens in Florida. Later they were taken to Mount Vernon, Alabama, and then to Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Geronimo tried to escape to Arizona. He spent the rest of his life at Fort Sill. Later on he was changed to a Christian and joined the Dutch Reformed church in 1903.
