Men and women dying instantly from the impact, and the deadly winds: children, getting covered by rubble while their parents desperately tried to free them: and buildings internal structures gone, in a matter of seconds as thy crash to the ground. To this very day, some are rejected from jobs because of the radiation sickness they acquired on that day. The event that the novel depicts is very important in our nation’s history. The bombing of Hiroshima on August 6, and the bombing of Nagasaki on August 9 was the final blow to Japan surrender to one of the most horrific wars of all time, World War II. The decision made almost sixty years ago is still one of the most controversial topics argued to this day. Hersey’s story is just a reminder for us to remember that decision, that bomb, that day, and all of the people who suffered for it.
