That's the American Way
...thing, sell ourselves to cigarette companies and drug dealers, get drunk at parties every so often, and so much more. The truth behind it is that we take it all for granted, and suffer terrible consequences. Sometimes we even lose our lives. That’s simply the American way of life. Recently, our population of obese and overweight individuals have increased, mainly consisting of children and adolescents. When Halloween comes around the corner we overindulge ourselves with chocolates and other sweets; at Thanksgiving and Christmas time we fill ours stomachs with turkey and butter-rich mashed potatoes until we can take in no more; and during our birthdays we lick cake frosting off our fingers. Essentially, the extravagant dishes we surround ourselves with cause problems for us physically and psychologically. We are not fond of exercise; we’d much rather sit on the couch watching reality shows. Thus, we gain a great deal of weight. However, in some cases the cause for our weight gaining may be entirely psychological. Due to the stress put unto ourselves by our jobs and schooling, we respond with anxiety and compulsions. For instance, binging. We binge, we gain weight, we suffer. It is a painful cycle that we, unfortunately, put ourselves through. In a sense, we kill ourselves.
