Islam and Women
... of two females.” (Sura 4:11). This verse speaks of inheritance and benefactors. A male can receive that which is received by two females. The proportion made exclaims that a man is equal to two women. This unfairness is definitely not peaceful, for a peaceful person puts himself equal if not lower than his peers. “Fair in the eyes of men is the love of things they covet: Women and sons, heaped-up hoards of gold and silver, horses branded and cattle and well-tilled land, such are the possessions of this world’s life…” (Sura 3:14). The Qur’an clearly states that a woman and her children are nothing but possessions to their husband, putting them at the same level as the gold and the silver. Not only this, but if a Muslim man touches a woman before prayer, even his wife, the prayer is considered unclean! “O ye who believe. Approach not prayers with a mind befogged until ye can understand all that ye say, nor in a state of ceremonial impurity, until after washing your whole body if ye are ill or on a journey or one of you state cometh from offices of nature, or ye have been in contact with women. And ye find no water, then take for yourselves clean sand or earth, and rub therewith your faces and hands: for Allah doth blot out sins and forgive again and again.” (Sura 4:43). When women disobey their husbands, or do anything he disapproves of, the females are subject to beatings and abstinence of sexual relations. “As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them, refuse to share beds with them, beat them…” (Sura 4:34). Beating people for reasons that can be solved verbally is definitely not peaceful. It is saddening to see a man beat a woman, especially for a minute reason. A man can divorce his wife by oral announcement. Yet, a woman can never dream of doing this. Men are lifted highly among Muslim congregations, leaving the women as their footstools. This is unfair and unjust. And as the Qur’an says, “It may be, if he divorced you that Allah will give him exchange consorts better than you…” (Sura 66:5). The Qur’an reprimands women and humbles them far below human capabilities. It is disgusting to view something of this nature that exhibits cruelty and injustice. ...
