Capital Punishment
... talk about the cost of prisoners to stay in jail, the cost of death penalty, what reduces crime rate and how family members feel justified. The cost to keep prisoners cost a whole lot. In an NZ article it says that keeping prisoners as an estimate is what they calculated is that, many challengers present, as fact, that the cost of the death penalty is so expensive (at least $2 million per case?), that we must choose life without parole in prison at a cost of $1 million for 50 years. Well these predictions are false. JFA estimates that life without parole in prison cases will cost $1.2 million - $3.6 million more than equivalent to death penalty cases. (prodeathpenalty.com) The death penalty assures that person will not come back and will not hunt for other people to kill. This would be costly to the tax payers, not only for the cost of housing and feeding the prisoner but because of the numerous appeals which wastes man hours and money. By treating criminals in this manner, we are encouraging behavior that will result in a prison sentence. If there is no threat of death to one who commits a murder, than that person is guaranteed to be provided with a decent living environment until their next parole hearing. They are definitely not getting the punishment they deserve. Reducing crime rate would be death. Most people are afraid to die. Some murderers think that since they know that there is a life without parole sentence without dying that they have assure of living. Abel Martinez a college student had wrote an interesting paper and used very important facts I thought made sense, he said that “If it is clear that a person is guilty of murder, then that person should be sentenced to death. Justice must be served. Placing murderers in prison isn't a tough enough punishment. In jail they would have a possible chance for parole. If they happen to make it back out to the world, who's to say s/he wouldn't kill again.” Also Abel Martinez found that Bureau of Justice Statistics say that of the 2,575 prisoners sentenced to death in 1992, 1 out of 11 had a prior conviction of homicide (Bureau of Justice Statistics 12-92). This means additional people had to die before these murderers were sentenced to death. What kind of justice is that? If the murderers were sentenced to death the first time they were convicted, innocent people would have not been killed. By executing the murderers the first time a round, justice will be served. How will the family of the murderer's victim feel about this unfit punishment? The ACLU, American Civil Liberties Union, an opponent of the death penalty is quoted as saying that "What families of murder victims really need is financial and emotional support to help them recover from their loss and resume their lives." Why would a family member go through all that pain for money? That to me is so ridiculous. What the victim's family is justice to be served, for the offender to be put to death, not any sort of financial retribution. Justice is all anyone wants and deserves. The punishment would fit the crime and the victim’s family and society would be helped knowing one less murderer is not out in the streets. If someone is lined up for executions then they more than likely deserve it. They have caused a great deal of grief to the family and friends of the victim or victims and it seems like the only way justice could be served is for the criminal to die. For the person to simply go to jail seems unfair. There they will eat three meals a day, and maybe get to watch cable TV.. They live a pretty good life in prison and they don't deserve it. If someone doesn’t have no one to take care of them in the future, they would think oh prison will take care of me and I don’t have to worry to go to work and worry on bills that they have to pay to live. Death is the best way to scare a murderer in trying to kill. Bailey a writer said that “If capital punishment were carried out more it would prove to be the crime deterren...
