Research has been conducted at CRRI to determine the value of maintenance to encourage road construction agencies to adopt sound maintenance practices (preventive maintenance) and understand the benefits, Individual road construction agencies need to carry this to assess their own maintenance practice. Various types of maintenance operations are discussed with their own merits in addition to earlier practices along with the proposals for Bangalore roads. . Introduction Bangalore being one of the fastest growing cities in South East Asia, due to its salubrious climate, rapid industrialization, higher institutes of learning, hi-tech institutions, R&D establishments, information technology & bio-technological developments, termed as the Silicon Valley of India. On the other hand, the road conditions are far from satisfactory which is not grown on par with the growth of traffic. The existing road length is more then about 4800 kms, with a few major arterial roads (without service roads) and highways crossing the urban areas, ring roads and bypass are constructed to ease the congestion in the heart of the city.
