...r company will have a better chance of succeeding in that particular area. I was surprised to read about how certain communities were against different businesses coming to there community. Disney wanted to build here in the Washington DC area. The people in that particular community were against it, because of the traffic it would cause. I thought that it was a great idea, because it would create new jobs, and bring more tourists to our area. I didn’t think about how bad traffic is already, and if Disney did build an amusement park here, it would make it twice as bad. With a new amusements park comes new hotel buildings, and condos for time share. They area would become very congested, and the cost of living in that area would probably go sky high. Reading about the welfare issues that our country has was very shocking. When writing my position paper on that topic, I did a little research on the Welfare issues in the Washington DC area. It was amazing to see how little someone could live off of, and it appears that it will only get worse as the years go by. I never understood why people wanted to stay on welfare, versus getting a job. After going over the numbers and reading the article on that, I realized how difficult it is to come off welfare, and have to get a job, provide for day care, and provide transportation back and forth to work. In the next few years, Washington DC will be cutting a lot of programs that are needed to assist people that are on welfare. Welfare to work program struggles with funding every year. I have always thought that these programs were readily available for someone that was trying to get a job and get off welfare. When I would hear stories of people being on welfare for years, I always assumed that they must be lazy and just want to live off taxpayers forever. I do believe still that there are some people out there will take advantage of the system, but I also now know that it is not that easy to get off welfare as I thought it would be. It appears that the states make it very hard to get yourself back on your feet. I am hoping that the entire assistance program will be review, and brought up to standards. The article “born to be good” had some things that I never thought of before, and some things that I did not agree with. Your surroundings, or the community you live in, does have a great deal to do with how you grow up, can determine how your attitude towards things will be. However, I also belive that some people are born with the attitudes they have with them for the rest of there lives. When some babies are born (healthy), they do not cry a lot, and generally are happy babies. U...
