In 1885 Edison met and fell in love with 18 year-old Mina Miller. Soon they were married and had three children. Thomas Edison died on October 18, 1931. Edison created hundreds of inventions such as the duplex telegraph, quadruplex telegraph, an automatic stock ticker, a machine to record votes, the phonograph (record player), and a kinetscope (moving picture camera). In 1869 he set up a partnership called Pope, Edison, and Company, the first electrical engineering company in the United States. Edison would later open laboratories in Newark and Menlo Park, New Jersey. In 1876 he came up with an improved version of the telephone by inventing a carbon button transmitter. By 1878 he had over 200 patents. Between 1878 and 1881 he set up the Edison Electrical Light Company and established the first commercial manufacture of incandescent lamps. In 1882 he opened the first commercial central electric lighting station in the United States.
