The Nucleus and the Nucleolus
...earn a great depth of description about the nucleus and nucleolus. As we said in the beginning, the nucleus is like the brain. The nucleus is surrounded by a double membrane called the nuclear envelope. The nuclear envelope divides the elements of the nucleus from the cytoplasm. The envelope helps maintain the structure of the nucleus and assists in regulating the flow of molecules into and out of the nucleus through nuclear pores. Also inside the nucleus contains chromosomes. When a cell is not active or just "resting," (also known as not dividing) the chromosomes are organized into long entangled structures called chromatin. Chromosomes are individual threadlike structures; when it's a group it's called chromatin. These are some of the inner organelles in the nucleus itself. Now that you know about the nucleus, let's go a little further into the nucleus. Every nucleus contains one nucleolus. The nucleolus is responsible for synthesizing the ribosomes to the endoplasmic reticulum. Ribosomes are responsible for assembling the proteins of the cell. Depending on the protein production level of a particular cell, riboso...
