Carthage is destroyed
...eligious nor territorrial reasons to fight. Naturally there were some economical grounds for a war, but the most important reason was the great might of the leaders of that time. Both Roman senator Scipio Africanus and Carthaginian general Hannibal Barca had huge numbers of men at their command. And so it could happen that the personal wrath of Scipio and Hannibal became the most important reason for a war in which many men died. This kind of conflict can only be prevented by giving inhabitants of all nations the power to rule. Replacing dangerous totalitarian states with democracies is indeed what the US are trying to do nowadays. Much differently is the situation in Israel. Here we see that the origin of conflict lies in the fact that the great monuments of two very different religions lie extraordinarily close to each other. Of course the anger in both Jewish and Palestinian hearts has many times been infuriated by their leaders. The point is however that when all the influence of the leaders is taken away, the base of the conflict, and the hatred of the people will still stand. This makes it very hard to find a solution for this kind of problem. A great leader, who can draw his people out of the conflict, is needed in such a situation This observation immediately evokes another question: do leaders strong enough to end such a conflict exist? It takes a leader of enormous greatness to make a group of people follow him even when the leader steps out of a hatred against another group, a hatred which has been accumulated over many years of fighting. Yet it is this kind of leader that is needed to prevent great conflicts to reach their often terrible conclusion. Fortunately, there has been at least one example of the existence of this type of leadership. For it is due to the power of one great leader that there is now a relative peace between the black and white people in Southern Africa who had been fighting each other for many decades. Nelson Mandela stepped out of the conflict and succeeded in drawing almost the entire black Southern African community with him, thus greatly decreasing the violence that had tormented this country for many years. His type of leadership a...
