...tive characteristics that I gained from being around my parents. I treat people I know and care about with more respect because of this love and affection that my parents taught me. Meeting one gentleman changed my life very drastically. Being around the same age as both my parents, this man taught me very important life lessons in which I base my life off of today. Being a teenager is a rough period in everyone’s life but this man showed me how to enjoy life to the fullest. He made me understand that it is all right to make mistakes but learning from the mistake is where it counts. On the other side of the fence, where the sun doesn’t necessarily beam, are people who I encountered that affected me because of their negative behavior and actions. Being around a family member who has a drinking problem has easily taught me that drinking, if not controlled, can ruin a person’s life. I witnessed this relative of mine not only destroy his life but affect my parents life as well. His drinking is an embarrassment to the family. Upon seeing this, I learned that what I do to myself affects the people I love and care for. This has affected the way I think and make decisions today.
