Unalienable Rights
...Just because it rubs some people, the wrong way does not mean it is wrong. People have rights even if a person does not believe in what another person is doing. Not to long ago, people taught interracial marriage wrong, and today it is common place. The Supreme Court stated “that freedom to marry has long been recognized as one of the vital personal right essential to orderly to pursuit of happiness.” Happiness being the key word. For years, homosexuals have fought to marry whoever they wanted, however most have seen little progress. For same sex couple to gain the right to marriage and receive the same benefits has heterosexual couple do will be a big step forward in the right to pursuit happiness. The government suspects a person to be a terrorist, so the busts down a person door an arrest that person right on the spot. Legally, the government has the right to do this because of the patriot act. They said it to protect our country, but the truth is they are violating your personal liberty. The Merriam Webster dictionary describes liberty as “freedom”. So all the government is doing is violating your personal freedom. This country broke away from England for that same reason. Nine-eleven was a horrible tragedy, but it does not give the government the right to arrest you for a year without telling you the reason. Think about begins locked up without given the chance to defend you. Go against that entire America stand for and the constitution. Living on the street with no where to go is a horrible thing to have to do. The National Law Center for Homeless and Poverty reports that “over three million men, woman, and children were homeless over the past year. On top of the three million there are an additional five million poor people that spend over half of their income on housing, leaving them on the verge of homelessness.” With rising housing cost and a slow economy, there is no end in sight. Most homeless are willing to work but without and address most employer are unwilling to hired them.
