Huaraz and The Callejon of Huaylas

Also, they explained us that the main attraction of Huaraz is the Callejon of huaylas, which offers different outdoor activities such as skiing, ice climbing, rock climbing, backpacking, mountain biking, kayaking, rafting and parachuting. Some tourists were practicing these sports. The city of Huaraz has all that you might need in terms of equipment and guides for these sports. The same day we took our first tour to the east access to all of the archeological sites scattered throughout the Callejon of Huaylas. The day at the Callejon of Huaylas was one of the greatest experiences on my life. I never thought that our culture and customs in the city of Huaraz were so amazing. They took us to different towns and villages such as Recuay, Carhuaz, Caraz, and Yungay were we tried all types of food and fruits. Then we went to a see the Lake Conococha an altitude of 4,100 meters (approx. 13,500 ft),runs the entire length of the valley and shows you the beauty of the valleys and towns around there. On the way back to the hotel we stopped by the Plaza of Armas; were we saw a variety of dancers wearing traditional customs full of colors. They were celebrating the festival of “El Senor de la Soledad” or “Senor of May”. It was fascinating how the dancer accompanied by the local musicians were playing quenas (canes), zamponas, and flautas with melodies of the huayno and pasacalles.
