...ping them really touched me. This feeling only grew as I participated in other activities such as my time with the Toys for Kids organization and the Kid Fest. I didn't gain a lot of new skills per say, but I did gain a lot of new understanding and respect for many groups of people. While volunteering as a pointer/waver for the Ironman Triathlon I gained a further respect for the athletes involved in the extreme race. Not only did they have to swim, run, and bike a very long distance, but they also had to do it in the hot sun, a feat not many people can say to have accomplished. I also gained respect for the people who dress up in the large animal costumes in fairs because I too had to do this when I volunteered at the Kid Fest. The costumes are often very heavy as well as very hot. I was able to switch in and out about every thirty minutes and rest for about five minutes. My sacrifice was nothing compared to their, often times, hours wearing the costumes with the same amount of rest time. I believe I have provided quite a lot of benefit to people who I have volunteered for to be modest.
