Mama wishes to have a nice house on the outskirts of Chicago, Beneatha wishes to become a doctor and have a good education and Walter Lee wants to run a successful business and rise from poverty. This speaks true in anyone’s home no matter what ethnicity they may be. Whether one be Italian, Mexican, Japanese, Native American or Jamaican they all have dreams. People have dreams of moving to a better neighborhood, getting a good education and rising from poverty. Hansberry’s play shows that one will try anything to reach a dream and that at times dreams do come true. Another idea is that of pride. One thing that all the Youngers possess is that of pride. Mama shows pride in finding a nice house for her family, Beneatha shows pride in getting the education she needs to become a doctor. And although at times it seems hard to believe even Walter has pride. He believes in himself that he will become a successful businessman. And after all his money is taken and Mr. Linder doesn’t want Walter and his family to move in the white neighborhood he regains his pride and say the family will move in the neighborhood any. Families no matter what ethnicity have pride. They are all proud of their values and morals. And have shown many times that they are too proud to back down from those who don’t want them to prosper and achieve their dreams.
