Dream of an hour

...of her husband was long and boring. "She was young, with a fair, calm face, whose lines bespoke repression and even a certain strength" (Chopin 544). Her entire life, Mrs. Mallard lived in the shadow of her husband, Brently Mallard she seemed to be under his beck and call. Ms. Mallard had heart problems, and her husband was always there to look after her, but sometimes it seemed as if he were sheltering her too much. Her life appeared colorless and dull, it seemed she had no real life of her own. She lived within the rules her husband kept and didn't try to break free. Her life was similar to a prisoner, her husband kept her locked away in the house away from any kind of stimulating contact for fear it might cause heart problems. News of his death, though sad to her at first, was like shackles suddenly being clip off of a prisoner's hands. "She did not hear the story as many have heard the same, with a paralyzed inability to accept its significance. She wept at once, with sudden, wild abandonment"(Chopin 544). The color seemed to pour into her life as she sat and stared out the window in thought. When she looked out her window it was a beautiful day with the blue sky stretching out forever as if it were a red carpet begging her to leave the house and go experience life. Her world changed as color and life and freedom flooded into her imagination. She imagined a world of freedom, which broke loose inside her and immediately, she left her long, expressionless life behind with he supposedly dead husband and began to plan a new life. A life full of excitement and freedom that she could not has with her overprotective husband. The new life was only to be cut short by the arrival home of her surprising living husband. These two worlds that Louise Mallard experiences demonstrate how life can be. Without freedom life is long and boring. Louise's life with her husband was colorless as she always lived tied to her husband by an invisible rope. Once this rope was cut, or so she thought,...
