Luhrmann's film exchange guns for swords as well as fast cars with old time horse riding. This in itself automatically brings new age viewer to watch the film. Bringing a great soundtrack to the movie in 96’ made many scenes seem more intense, as for the opening fight scene as guns were going off and people were getting introduced to the wild music. Adapted a whole new audience of young rebels right off the bat. Being able to change factors like these and have the same story is awesome in my eyes. The dull, boring look of 68’ needed much improvement to grab attention in the 1996 film. Settings were changed in the 1996 flick into a Miami vice look alike movie. The film of the 1968 took place on streets that looked as if only peasants walked on them. The 1996 film starts off in a town or beach of destruction as families’ battle out with guns. All scenes in Luhrmann's film were much more emphasized as the war among the Capulets and Montagues was more like a world war three. In Zeffirelli’s film, it seemed more like just a family feud among the two families. The 1996 film was on the news and it seemed like the whole town could be in danger, with bombs and fires all over the television. Zeffirelli's film was mostly a war among the families on a street and only this had effected few. Luhrmann does a wonderful job on showing how times have changed in battles among large families while using up to date weapons. Can Special effects and costumes turn a boring movie in 1968 to a spectacular humorous movie in 1996? Well I believe so. Luhrmann knew how to make a hit with Romeo and Juliet without changing the main facts of the original script.
