...e some of his actions were considered crude, harsh, and personally driven (his vendetta against the republican party and the national bank for example) by the other upper most influential politicians of his time, most his actions and a hidden logical reasoning he maintained, had the people in mind. Jackson had also set a precedent that the future candidates for the presidency would attempt to meet, and still do: the self-made man. Jackson was born in humble circumstances. Orphaned at a young age, Jackson had already volunteered for military service and learned to read. As he grew up he gained more experience on the frontier, evidence of being close to the mass of the people, and a devotion to democracy (even if not for the leaders of the current time). These would become priceless assets to obtain for candidates in the future. Jackson also had an intriguing darker side to his candidacy: he was known for his temper, for being a jokester, and slightly loose handled… all of which I believe brought him closer to the people who loved him, instead of scandalizing him, as his competition would have liked. Andrew Jackson’s dealings with the bigger issues of his presidency can be viewed from a wide array of angles, and shed light on many different aspects of Jackson’s personality. His dealings, or lack there of, with Cherokee issues, pull a dark shadow over many of the positive things he did with his presidential power.
